THE BENEFITS FOR THE ELDERLY

Having reached the age of wisdom and maturity, in a society that has broken the links between the ages of life, the elderly often suffer from loneliness: 10% of people between 85 and 89 leave home less than once the week or never goes out; one in three sixty-year-olds does not go out every day. Now, we too, like trees, are contact beings, we need exchanges with our fellow men to feel good. The practice of silvotherapy is a way to be in contact with the living. Since it is not necessary to hike and enter a forest, older people can practice silvotherapy on the edge of a forest.

Furthermore, the constant practice, at least weekly, of Forest Bathing provides numerous health benefits: oxygenation, slowing of aging and visual stimulation that has an effect on morale.

In addition, a sedentary lifestyle poses a risk to the health of the elderly, increasing the risk of diseases such as cancer, heart disease and type 1 diabetes, especially when sitting for more than 10 hours a day. But we must not think that we have to make great efforts or play sports to obtain benefits: physical activity refers to healthy movements. Experts recommend getting up and walking for 5 minutes every 20-30 minutes while sitting and taking at least 10,000 steps a day.

Being in nature provides an excuse to move more. Indeed, it has been studied that the presence of greenery stimulates physical activity: a very positive aspect, as sport in the midst of nature, whether in a park or in a forest, decreases stress and improves headache in greater extent than when it takes place in an urban environment.
